In the glass industry, gases come into play in the production of flat glass, container glass, TV glass or special glass as well as in the production of fiber glass.
Glass Melting
By use of oxygen in the firing of glass tank, the performance of the equipment can be notably increased.
Zinc Bath Inerting
In order to avoid schlieren forming in the production of flat glass, a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen as reductive and cooling medium can be employed over the zinc bath.
Fire Polishing
In order to give the glass articles a faultless appearance after the forming, their surface is treated with an oxyhydrogen flame.
Smoothing
In the aftertreatment of glass articles, the unevennesses on the glass surface are smoothed by an oxygen-fuel gas flame.
Mold Lubrication
In mold lubrication with acetylene, a layer of fine soot is applied onto the glass mold, so that the glass article can be easily separated from the mold after cooling down.
